Joey Barton hints at Burnley exit regret
In a recent interview with The Guardian, experienced midfielder Joey Barton has revealed that he does often wonder why he left Burnley for Rangers last summer.
I felt it had run its course. I needed another challenge, another experience, even though there have been days since then when I’ve thought: ‘Why? Why did I do that?’
The 34-year-old was a pivotal part of Burnley’s return to the Premier League last season as he often dictated the midfield in the Championship, helping them to get back to the top flight at the first time of asking.
It was quite the surprise that Barton did choose to move on from The Clarets after such a season with the excitement of the Premier League back upon them, however, he spoke of how he wanted a change away from the club.
But I’ve got to believe in Rangers even if it’s been much harder than I expected.
Barton has been suspended recently by Rangers after a training ground bust-up, seeing the Englishman out of action for the next three weeks.
Whether Barton does have a future in Glasgow with Rangers now is up for debate, however, it certainly looks as though he’s regretful of not staying put with Burnley for the season ahead.
