Dyche not surprised by Heaton heroics
Burnley manager Sean Dyche has admitted that he wasn’t surprised to see Tom Heaton pull off a world class performance against Southampton, the Lancashire Telegraph can report.
I reminded a couple of people earlier, he’s an England international you know, he’s got a job to do and he is allowed to do it, and he’s done it very well. Generally speaking, it’s unusual to have to do that much work, we’re opening up, chasing the game, and that can happen.
The 30-year-old shot-stopper was in sublime form on the south coast, pulling off a series of exceptional saves, with the most impressive one of all coming early on from Charlie Austin’s goal-bound header.
They created good chances and Tom has to be right on his guard and played well to make sure it’s a more respectable situation.
Heaton made an unbelievable ten saves on the afternoon but his efforts were not enough to prevent a rampant Southampton side from taking all three points.
The Burnley captain has pulled off more saves than any other Premier League goalkeeper this season, with a quite outstanding 39 saves in eight games so far to his name.
Gordon Banks (pulled off a better save)…Joe Hart the other night…I don’t want to do Tom down, but he’ll get a big head!
Heaton overcame a minor calf injury that he sustained whilst out on international duty with England in training, and Dyche will be counting his lucky stars that he did, otherwise it could very well have turned out to be an embarrassing afternoon in Southampton.
